    Mobility edge in lattice QCD

    We determine the location λc\lambda_c of the mobility edge in the spectrum of the hermitian Wilson operator on quenched ensembles. We confirm a theoretical picture of localization proposed for the Aoki phase diagram. When λc>0\lambda_c>0 we also determine some key properties of the localized eigenmodes with eigenvalues λ<λc|\lambda|<\lambda_c. Our results lead to simple tests for the validity of simulations with overlap and domain-wall fermions.Comment: revtex, 4 pages, 1 figure, minor change

    Generalized Ginsparg-Wilson algebra and index theorem on the lattice

    Recent studies of the topological properties of a general class of lattice Dirac operators are reported. This is based on a specific algebraic realization of the Ginsparg-Wilson relation in the form γ5(γ5D)+(γ5D)γ5=2a2k+1(γ5D)2k+2\gamma_{5}(\gamma_{5}D)+(\gamma_{5}D)\gamma_{5} = 2a^{2k+1}(\gamma_{5}D)^{2k+2} where kk stands for a non-negative integer. The choice k=0k=0 corresponds to the commonly discussed Ginsparg-Wilson relation and thus to the overlap operator. It is shown that local chiral anomaly and the instanton-related index of all these operators are identical. The locality of all these Dirac operators for vanishing gauge fields is proved on the basis of explicit construction, but the locality with dynamical gauge fields has not been established yet. We suggest that the Wilsonian effective action is essential to avoid infrared singularities encountered in general perturbative analyses.Comment: 11 pages.     Chiral Fermions and Multigrid

    Lattice regularization of chiral fermions is an important development of the theory of elementary particles. Nontheless, brute force computer simulations are very expensive, if not prohibitive. In this letter I exploit the non-interacting character of the lattice theory in the flavor space and propose a multigrid approach for the simulation of the theory. Already a two-grid algorithm saves an order of magnitude of computer time for fermion propagator calculations.Comment: Latex, 6 pages, 1 figur

    Quantitative Analysis of the Publishing Landscape in High-Energy Physics

    World-wide collaboration in high-energy physics (HEP) is a tradition which dates back several decades, with scientific publications mostly coauthored by scientists from different countries. This coauthorship phenomenon makes it difficult to identify precisely the ``share'' of each country in HEP scientific production. One year's worth of HEP scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals is analysed and their authors are uniquely assigned to countries. This method allows the first correct estimation on a ``pro rata'' basis of the share of HEP scientific publishing among several countries and institutions. The results provide an interesting insight into the geographical collaborative patterns of the HEP community. The HEP publishing landscape is further analysed to provide information on the journals favoured by the HEP community and on the geographical variation of their author bases.     Asymmetric Non-Abelian Orbifolds and Model Building

    The rules for the free fermionic string model construction are extended to include general non-abelian orbifold constructions that go beyond the real fermionic approach. This generalization is also applied to the asymmetric orbifold rules recently introduced. These non-abelian orbifold rules are quite easy to use.
